Shortly
after the investigation began, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office named Dale
Wayne Hill as a suspect in the abduction of Stephanie. It was reported that Dale
Hill was driving a maroon over red with grey and black graphics, Ford pickup bearing
Oregon license plate "986APQ" at the time.
The
Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigation revealed that Dale Wayne Hill also
owned a European American Armory snub nose .38 caliber revolver bearing the serial
number of "1516967". It was reported that Dale Hill told Sheriff's Office
detectives he had sold this revolver to an unknown person in a bar in the Myrtle
Creek area back in 1998.
The case is
actively being investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance
of the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
